Main Show Portal Design Concept

The main concept for the design of this portal is to portray the gothic themes of this play while still establishing the Rococo period in which the story takes place. This design is mainly Rococo style, with a hidden macabre detail to add a foreboding feel.

" Act 1, Scene 1:
The Year 1823"- Concept Rendering

At the top of the show, the set resembles a dark and decrepit room, symbolizing the main character Antonio Salieri's inner tortured soul before he tells the audience the story of his life of how he killed Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart many years ago.

The set design concept for this production is to transform when transitioning from a decrepit room in the year 1823 at the top of the show, to the fully opulent and vibrant backdrops of the eighteenth century once Salieri starts telling his story.

The Main Show
(Designs for scenic elements living on the stage at all times during the show)
- The Show Portals -
*The Main Show Portal is split into two segments on seperate fly systems. Once the show begins, the teaser portion will rise, extending the height of the false proscenium that the portal is creating.

- The Overall Set -
The set consists of two window frame structures and a mantelpiece that frame painted flats that are flying in,
giving the illusion of them turning into anything, depending on each scene.
